New Treatment For Heel Pain (Spurs)

Extracorporeal Shock Wave (ESW) Therapy

Now Available: a non-surgical solution for chronic, persistent heel pain (Proximal Plantar Fascitis)

Plantar Fascitis is a debilitating foot/heel condition that limits our ability to stand , walk and function without substantial pain and disability. A new therapy (ESW) is now available to treat this painful condition - when standard therapy is not successful.

A new device, the Ossatron is a shockwave generator - very similar to the wave used to treat kidney stones without invasive surgery. This shock waves are created by a spark devise that is enclosed in a soft plastic dome filled with water. During treatment , the dome is placed closed to the heel so the shock waves pass through the soft tissue and heel bone (calcanous) - creating a healing environment  ... without invasive surgery or extended convalescence.

The procedure is performed on an outpatient (day surgery) basis with local anesthetic and takes less than thirty minutes. Most patients are discharged promptly - wearing their own footwear - and require minimal pain medication post-operatively.

Generally, patient will return to regular, non-aerobic, activity within a few days. Some patients receive immediate relief of heel and arch pain - while others may require several weeks for resolution of clinical symptoms. Results may vary with each patient - but the overall response to ESW therapy is very positive.

The doctor's staff at the Denver Foot and Ankle Clinic are experienced with ESW therapy and will be pleased to discuss your clinical condition and treatment options.
